SGGS Angg 282.

Raag Gauree – Astpadhi 15 pada 1, Sukhmani Sahib.

Gurbani tells us the fetus is in deep prayer while in the mother’s womb. God saved you in the fire of the womb; (even before that), and did not allow your destruction when you were an ovum in the mother’s ovary; He blessed you with simran, and nurtured you. He is the Master of all hearts. (SGGS Ang 1084).

“Maat garab me jineh ubareiya; rakat kiram me nahi sangaareya; Aapna simran de pritpaleya Oh saggal ghataa ka Maalka.”

As the child comes out into the physical world, Anand Sahib says

“Ja Tis Bhana ta parvaar bhala bhaeya; liv chutkee lagee trisna maya amar vatraeya.”

His liv in simran gets broken as he is born. In this pada, Guru Ji says, God can mend and join together what is broken (liv); He cherishes all beings; His Mind carries the cares of) all; no one is turned away from Him; O my mind meditate forever on the Lord; the Imperishable Lord is Complete in Himself.

“Tutee gandhanhaar Gopal; sarab jeea Aape pritpaal; saggal ki chinta jis mann mahe; Tis te birtha koyee nahe; re mann mere sada Har jaap; Abhinasee Prabh Aape Aap.”

By his own actions nothing is accomplished; although the mortal may wish it so, hundreds of times; without Him, nothing is of use to you; Nanak says, you get liberation by reciting the Name of the One Lord.

“Aapan kiya kachu na hoye; je sao pranee lochay koye; Tis bin nahi tere kich kaam; gatt Nanak jap Ek Har Naam.”
