Raag Assa – Ang 484-488 @Damansara Darbar

Sheikh Fareed Ji tells us about the temporary nature of man’s journey on earth.

Some of the highlights of his Shabad at Ang 488:

1. Sheikh Ji was a devout Muslim. In His Sloks, Sheikh Ji scolds those who do not do their daily prayers. He calls such a person, “benivaja kutiya.”
Despite Sheikh Ji’s commitment to Sufi Islam, in this Shabad, He tells us
“Jo Gur Dasse Vaar Murida Jolieye.” And the aungkad under the word Gur shows, He is speaking of Shabad as Guru.

2. The final two lines are fantastic in their depth and vastness. Sheikh Ji says, the earth asks the sky, “where have the boatmen (bodies), gone.” The sky which sees all, replies solemnly. Some have been cremated, some lie in their graves. All their souls (jeev) are suffering rebukes/punishments (ulaameh), for their karmic conduct.
