SGGS Ji Ang 631
Raag Sorath – M9
We must be careful with our lives, and never allow it to happen to us.
Guru Tegh Bahdur Ji looks at a man who has led a wasted life.
He made many plans to drench himself with Naam, read Paath, do Satsanggat, Shabad Vichaar, Simran, Sewa of the Guru, but alas, all his plans remained unfulfilled. He never got down to actually do what he planned.
The translation of the 1st line,
“Mann ki mann hi mahe rahi” is not accurate. It reads as “the mind remains in the mind.”
With respect, a more accurate translation would be “all the plans to do Prayer, remained mere plans, and nothing was done to put the plans to practice.”
As no attempt was made to engage in sincere Prayer to the Lord, time ebbed away, and “….. choti kaal gahi” – death seizes him by the hair.
ਮਨ ਕੀ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਰਹੀ ॥
Man kī man hi mahi rahi.
