Guru Ji lists many rituals and methods used by sadhus, yogis and pandits. None of them help to eradicate the five inner evils. In fact such practices increase your ego.

“Paath padiyo aur bedh bichareyo nival bhoyungam saday; panch janna sio sang na chutkiyo adikk ahumbudh banday”

Realizing the futility of all these rituals the Sikh falls at the Guru’s Feet pleading for “budh bibeka” – discerning wisdom where I can know what is right and what is wrong.

Guru Ji lists an astonishing number of futile methods. From observing silence (maun), wandering naked in the jungles, using the hands as eating utensils (refusing to use plates in the belief that you achieve purity by that), using the 84 aasans of the sidhs, increasing your age by pranayams.

The Shabad concludes by saying the best way is to do sadhsangat. It is the highest of all actions “sirr karman ke karma.”

You blend in sadhsangat if you have been blessed to be part of it.

The 2nd rahao tells us the sewak is now coloured with love for God. His mind is now imbued with Praises of God.
“…. Har Har kirtan eh mann rataa”

(“Bhaio kirpaal deen dukh bhangan har har keertan ih man raata.” (rahoo dujja).
