Maskeen Ji relates a story about a young Socrates.
Socrates believed the planets and their positions had an influence on man’s destiny.
He fell into a well and was saved by a simple wise old woman who refused his offer to chart her destiny according to the stars.
Gurbani does not believe in astrology or astronomy.
Gurbani says, the astrologer uses various calculations to draw out a horoscope.
“Gann gann jotakk kaandi kinee.” (Ang 904)
He reads it aloud and proclaims it to others, but he knows nothing about the True Reality, the Essence of things and events.
“Parhe sunahve tatt na chinee.”
Guru Ji says that above all knowledge is Shabad Bichaar – inner reflection on the One Divine
“Sabse upar Gur Shabad Bichaar”
Do not bother to discuss other things, it is all ashes (a waste of time, not productive at all)
“Hor kathni badho na saglee shaar.”
God is the Karam Bidhata, who Alone decides and writes, changes and can even erase your destiny, not the planets.
“Samrath Purakh Puran Bidhate Aape Karnehaara.”
(Ang 618).
He does not consult anyone or seek anyone’s Advice
“Bioo pooch na maslatt dhare.”
Whatever He chooses to do, He does Himself.
“Jo kich kare so Aape Kare.” (Ang 863).
If you have any astrological or astronomical charts put away in some corner, burn them. The mann has a habit of imprinting such ideas in the mind and it goes about trying to make those ideas come true. Once the idea gets imprinted in the mind, it cannot be erased, without Naam and the Guru’s Grace.
“Nanak muratt chitar jio shadatt nahi bheet.
(Slok M.9. Slok 37).
