SGGS Ang 526
Raag Gujri
Bhagat Jaidev Ji was born in Bengal.
There is not much historical evidence of Bhagat Ji’s date of birth.
Some historical records however show that Bhagat Ji was a respected Minister in the Court of Raja Lakshman Sen from 1170 onwards.
Another set of records shows Bhagat Ji served the Orissa Raja from 1146 onwards.
In all cases, Bhagat Ji’s two Shabads are the oldest contributions of Gurbani in SGGS Ji. Sheikh Fareed Ji’s Bani comes next, from 1173 onwards.
Bhagat Jaidev Ji’s Pada in Raag Gujri is very intricate and expressed in Prakrit. It is a mixture of Sanskrit, Pali, old Hindi.
Bhagat Ji’s 5 Pada Shabad, is used as a “tester” Shabad at many Gurdwaras, to see if any pathee can read Gurbani fluently.
Although the Shabad is couched in language which is rather difficult to grasp, as you delve deep into the Shabad, you will find Bhagat Ji says the same things which are said by all the Satgurus and other Bhagat Bani in SGGS Ji.
The rahao says “Kewal Raam Naam Manoramang.”
(Dwell upon only the Name of the Beauteous All Pervading Lord).
His Name is the Embodiment of Ambrosial Sweetness and Truth ( Reality).
( “Badh Amrit Tatt Meiyang”).
As you remember Him in simran with love, you will be relieved from all troubles and fears of births, old age, and deaths.
(” Na danot jassamarnein janam jarad maran bheiyang”).
Bhai Ji added on even date:
This Shabad by Bhagat Jaidev Ji stresses,
“Kewal Raam Naam Manoramung”
Manoramang (Lovingly Reflect Always) only (Kewal) the Name of the All Pervading Lord (Raam Naam).
From Bhagat Jaidev Ji
(1146 – -the First Contributor to SGGS Ji), till Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji
(1675 – the Final Contributor), the stress is always on Singing Praises of the Divine One.
Everything falls into place as you stick to Only Naam.
