SGGS Angg 1106.
Raag Maru.
My translation and commentary is vastly different from the translation on the Internet.
Bhagat Jaidev Ji has two Shabads in SGGS Ji, at Angg 526 and 1106.
Sikh organisations like 3HO and some parcharaks feel one must use yoga to Unite with God. Apart from pangtis like,
“Kundalini surji satsanggat Parmanand Guru Mukh Macha” (Ang 1402),
they also quote this line from Bhagat Jaidev Ji in Raag Maru (Ang 1106),
“Chand Sat Bhediya Naad Sat Puriya Sur Sat Khodsa Dat Kiya”.
In this line Bhagat Ji describes the yogic practice of pranayam, inhaling, holding the breath and then exhaling. All these are actions of the physical body. They may help to give you good health, but are useless in connecting with the Divine One.
In the 2nd line, Bhagat Ji describes what happened when he used the mann, while reciting His Name. The result,
I broke the strength of the pretender maya (Abhal bal todiya). The fickle mind was brought under control (Achal chal thapiya). As Japji Sahib says the suratt matt mann budh was resculptured (Akadh ghadiya). At that avastha he drank in of Amrit (Amrit piya).
It is the mann (Mann Aad Gunn Aad Vakhaniya – not the body through yoga) which had to be harnessed to Sing His Praises. As he Sang His Praises, all duality (delusions and bhulekhe of maya) vanished, and the True, Only Reality, God Appeared.
“Mann Aad Gunn Aad Vakhaniya (vakhaniya in poetic Punjabi means to recite, not to show something as is commonly used nowadays); Teri Dubida Dhrist Samaniya.”
