SGGS Ang 596

Raag Sorath

Gurbani says amongst His Infinite Attributes (Gunn), God is also, Pure, Perfect.

Words like “Nirmal”, “Paavan”, “Pavitar” are used to describe His State, His Nature.

Arising from that it becomes clear that He will only abide in your mann, if the matt therein is also Pure and Pristine.

For example, if you scroll porn sites, use filthy, vulgar language or smirk while listening to such unchaste words, your matt must be Purified first before He abides there.

Gurbani says,

“Gandhan vehn ratta hitkari Shabade suratt na aayi” (Ang 596).

One who indulges in filthy, foul language, the Shabad (Naam, God) will never reside in his suratt (consciousness)

The matt has to be cleansed with Naam da rang.

“Bhariye matt paapa ke sang Oh dhoppe Naave ke rang” (Japji Sahib)

Thus Guru Ji says, as you focus on the True, Pure Lord within, you become Purified and He starts to reside within.

“Kaho Nanak Sach Dhiayeh; Suchh Hove Ta Sach Paaiyeh” (Ang 472)

It is deep simran which will remove the filth in your mann (matt).

“Prabh Ke Simran Mann Ki Malh Jaiye” (Ang 263)
