Raag Malaar

Raag Malhar is the 27th Raag in SGGS Ji. It is a Raag connected to the rainy monsoon season. That is the external connection with His Kudrat.

Internally, however, Shabads sung in this Raag will cool your inner being and bring peace. Guru Amardas Ji describes Malhar Raag as,

“Malhar Seetal Raag hai Har Dhiiayeh Shaant Hoye”.

This Raag is found at Anggs
1254 till 1294.

This Raag is preceded by Raag Sarang, which relates to a thirsty rain bird. Lots of Shabads in Raag Sarang speak of the yearning and thirst for Amrit Naam. This Raag starts at Angg 1197. As an example of thirst, the 2nd Shabad of Raag Sarang says,

“Har bin kyo rehiye dukh biappe; jihva saad na fikki rass bin bin Prabh kaal santaape”

The answers are of course given in the following lines of the Shabad. However if one looks at the Shabads of Raag Malhar, the Sikh is told directly how the showers of His Grace are received.

“Babeeha Amrit Vele Boliya Ta Dar Sunni Pukar; Meghe Nu Furmaan Hova Varso Kirpa Dhar” (Ang 1285).  – (also read “Meghay nu Furmaan hova varso kirpa dhaar – Ang 1285)
