The central message in all the Asthpadhis is Shabad (Naam), which is recited and enshrined in the mann with loving bhagti, leading to Union with the Divine One within all of us.

At Angg 109, the Asthpadis of Raag Majh begin. There is one Asthpadhi by Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The rahao states,

“Hao Vari Jio Vari Shabad Suhavnia; Amrit Naam Sada Sukhdata Gurmatti Mann Vasavneiya”

(I am in awe of those who are Blessed with the Beautiful Shabad; They receive Ambrosial Naam which always brings peace. This Naam is enshrined in the mind by the Guru’s Teachings).

The scene is set. After this one Asthpadhi by Guru Nanak Dev Ji, there are 32 Asthpadhis by Guru Amardas Ji, followed by 1 Asthpadhi by Guru Ramdas Ji.

Five Asthpadhis by Guru Arjun Dev Ji completes the set at 39 Asthpadhis in all.

The Asthpadhi here is Asthpadhi no. 13 by Guru Amardas Ji.

The rahao states,

“Hao Vari Jio Vari Gur Pura Mann Vassavenieya; Gur Te Shaant Bhagat Kare Dinn Raati Gunn Kahe Gunni Samaavenieya”

(I am in awe of those who enshrine the Guru’s Shabad in their minds; Day and Night they engage in loving devotion, reciting the Lord’s Name, and Merge into the Name).
