Raag Maru M.1.

Guru Ji graphically describes the period before Creation and after Creation. This Shabad is closely connected with Astpadhi 21, Sukhmani Sahib.

Guru Ji says Aeons and Aeons (Arbad Narbad) ago before Creation had taken place, there was a Mist like State (Dhundukara) of God. There was no earth or sky, only His Infinite Hukam existed. There was no day or night, moon nor sun, He Sat in a Profound State of Sunn Samadh (Absolute Silence, yet fully Aware of Everything).

“Arbad Narbad Dhundukara; Dharan na Gaggana Hukam Apara; Na Dinn Rehn Na Chand Na Suraj Sunn Samadh Lagaaida”

There were then no species of Creation, and there was no speech (sound), nor air nor water; there was no Creation or Destruction, no cycle of coming or going; there were no continents, nether regions, seven seas, rivers or flowing waters.

“Khani Na Bani Paun Na Pani; Upatt Khapatt Na Aavan Jaani; Khand Pataal Sapatt Nahi Saagar Nadhi Na Neer Vahaeda”

Guru Ji continues in similar vein, describing an astonishing number of things which had not been created.

In pada 12, Guru Ji says there was no love or devotion, nor Shiv or Shakti, (Divine Energy and Matter); there were no friends or companions, semen nor ovum; He Himself Sat as Banker and Merchant, such was the Will of the True Lord.

“Bhao Na Bhagti Na Shiv Shakti; Saajan Meet Bind Nahi Rakti; Aape Shah Aape Vanjara Sache Eho Bhaeda”

In pada 14, Guru Ji says, when He so Willed, He Created the World.

“Ja Tis Bhana Ta Jagatt Upaaiya”

In pada 15, Guru Ji further says, He Formed the Planets, Solar Systems, Nether Regions, and brought into manifestation what had so far been hidden.

“Khand Brahmand Pataal Arambhe Gupto Pargati Aaiyeda”

In pada 16, Guru Ji concludes by saying no one can know His Limits; Only the Perfect Guru (Shabad) can impart Understanding.

“Ta Ka Antt Na Jaane Koyi; Puray Gur Te Sojee Hoyi”

Drenched with Love and Admiration at the Awesome Vastness of the Canvas Guru Ji says, Nanak, those who are Attuned to the Truth will be Wonderstruck. They will Sing His Glorious Praises and be Fascinated with His Wonder.

“Nanak Sach Ratte Bismaadi Bissam Bhye Gunn Gaeeda.”

(I have heard this Shabad numerous times. Each time I discover something new and fresh. In Very Sweet Bani, Guru Ji Paints a Mind Boggling Canvas).
