Raag Todee – Bhagat Namdev Ji.

Bhagat Ji tells us of some of the Infinite Powers of Naam.

What karmic blemishes can remain if one recites the Lord’s Name?

“Kaun ko kalankk rehyo Raam Naam leth hee.”

Sinners become Pure chanting the Lord’s Name.

“Patit pavit kiye Ram kahat hee.” (rahao).

Keeping Company of the Lord’s Name, Namdev has been blessed with firm faith; I have stopped fasting on the eleventh day of each lunar fortnight; why should I bother to go to pilgrimages at sacred shrines?

“Raam sang Namdev jann ko partagiya ayee; ekadesi bartt rahe kahe ko tirath jayee.” (Ekadesi bartt is a fast held on the 11th day of a lunar fortnight i.e. there is a fast held twice a month. This fast is to appease Vishnu).

Namdev prays, I have been blessed to do good deeds and harbour good thoughts; chanting the Lord’s Name under Sanctuary of the Guru’s Teachings, tell me who has not gone to Baikunth? (Baikunth literally means the heaven of Vishnu, but the Bhagat uses the word “Raam” i.e the All Pervading Lord four times in this short Shabad. Bhagat Ji is using Baikunth to refer to Sachkhand. Moreover in the 4th line, Bhagat Ji has said He no longer keeps the fasts to appease Vishnu).

“Bhannat Namdeo sokritt somatt bhaye; Gurmatt Raam kahe ko ko na Baikunth gaye.”
