This Shantt has 5 padas. This is the first pada. This pada warns us that without Naam there will be much misery. Guru Ji says why are you in love with another i.e. anyone besides God?  The path of other loves is treacherous. As you commit sins on the other path, you find you are all alone when it comes to punishment.

“An kaye ratrrhiya vat duheli Ram; paap kamavediya tera koye na beli Ram”

You will find no true friend on the path of sin and each sinful action will always lead to regret; you have not recited the Lord’s Name with your tongue, when will these wasted days come again?

“Koye na beli hoye tera sada pachotavey; gunn Gopal n japay rasna firr kadho se deh aave”

Leaves separated from the branch shall not be joined again; they fall alone on the way to inglorious death (to the path of jamms, misery and ruin); Nanak says, without Naam the jeev wanders forever in suffering.

“Tarvar vishunay n paat jurhtay jamm mag gaunn ekeli; binvant Nanak bin Naam Har ke sada firtt duheli”
