A Sikh who has been blessed by Gur Parsad recalls his journey. He expresses gratitude to Guru Ji/God.

So long as there remained doubts in the mind, I used to stagger and fall; the Guru cut away my misconceptions and I obtained tranquility.

“Diggan dola tao lo jo mann ke bharma; bharam kattey Gur apne paaye bisrama.”

Those quarrelsome enemies have been overcome through the Guru; I am now freed from them and they are freed from me   (i.e. all bondages and lekha has been removed).

“Oh bikhadi dokhiya te Gur te huttay; ham chutay ab ona te oh ham te chutay.”(rahao).

So long as I held on to “mine and yours” I was held in bondage (now I see everything belongs to You); when the Guru cut away my ignorance, then the noose of death was cut away from my neck.

“Mera tera jaanta tab hi te bandaa; Gur katti agyanta tab chutkay phandaa.”

So long as I did not understand Your Hukam, I was miserable; as I met the Guru (Shabad), and recognized Your Will, I became truly happy.

“Jab lag Hukam na bujhta tab hi lao dukhiya; Gur mil Hukam pehchaniya tab hi te sukhiya.”

(Now) I have no enemies nor adversaries, nor is anyone wicked towards me; Nanak says, performing the tasks as Guru’s servant, I have become His slave. (it is the greatest of blessings to be His slave).

“Na ko dushman dokhiya nahi ko manda; Gur ki sewa sewko Nanak khasme banda.”
