Raag Assa M.5

A Sikh sings Praises of God. He says, I am Your child, overawed by Your Majesty. Please protect me in Your Own Mysterious Play, and inspire me to sing Your Glories.

You are Infinite, Eternal and Beyond Comprehension. (Whatever I see) All this is Your Creation; what clever tricks can I, a created being, do to prevail against You, when everything is contained in You?. (i.e. You know everything).

“Tu Beantt Avigatt Agochar eh sabh Tera akaar; kya ham jantt kare chaturayee ja sabh kich Tujhe majhaar.”

O my True Guru, I am Your child. Please protect me in Your Own Mysterious Play; Grant me the good sense to always sing Your Praises, O my Inaccessible, Infinite Lord and Master.

“Mere Satgur Aapne balak rakho kirpa dhaar; deh sumatt sada gunn gavha mere Thakur Aggam Apaar.” (rahao).

As the fetus is protected from the fire of the mother’s womb, Supported by the Name of the Lord; he remains in bliss and remembers the Lord with every breath, and the fire does not scorch him.

“Jaise janann jathar me prani oh rehta Naam adhaar; anand kare saas saas samare na pohe agnaar.”

Wealth of others, wives of others, slander of others, renounce your craving for these; serve the Lotus Feet (Bani) within your heart, and hold to the Support of the True Guru (Shabad).

“Par dhan par dara par ninda ein seyo preet nivaar; Charan Kamal sewi ridh antar Gur Puray ke adhaar.”

Houses, mansions and palaces that you see, none of these will go with you; servant Nanak says, as long as you live in these dark decadent times, cherish the Name of the Lord.

“Greh mandir mehla jo dissay na koyee sangaar; jab lagg jivhe kali kaal me jann Nanak Naam samaar.”
