Raag Todee M.5

The Gurus and Bhagats have described the state of bairaag at many places in SGGS Ji. It is a deep inner yearning for Union and Darshan, which is quite uncontrollable. Sometimes one cries quietly, laughs, and sometimes goes into deep silence, missing the Beloved. Nothing matters besides Him.

“Rang hasse rang rovhe chup bhi kar jahe; parvaah nahi kisse ki baaj Sache Nah.” (Ang 473 – Asa Ki Vaar).

In the first part of this Shabad, until the rahao, the jeev isteri describes her feelings of bairaag. The rest of the Shabad describes her single minded devotion to Naam which leads to Gur Parsad and Union with the Divine One.

O my mother, my mind is so thirsty; I cannot survive even for an instant without my Beloved. My mind is gushing with desire to behold His Blessed Vision.

“Mayi mere mann ki pyaas; eik khin reh na sako bin Pritam Darshan dekhan ko dhari mann aas.” (rahao).

I meditated upon the Naam of the Immaculate (Pure) Creator Lord, and all the sins and errors of my mind and body were washed away; the Praises of the Perfect, Supreme Lord God, the Imperishable Giver of Peace, are Pure and Spotless.

“Simro Naam Niranjan Karte mann tann te sabh kilvikh naas; Puran Parbrahm Sukhdatey Abhinasi Bimmal ja ko jaas.”

By the Grace of the Saints (Guru) my desires were fulfilled, and in His Grace, the Lord of All Treasures met me; Nanak says peace and tranquility, poise and bliss have welled up within me, and in my mind there is illumination of millions of suns.

“Sant Parsad mere purh manorath kar kirpa bhetay Guntaas; Shaant sahaj sukh mann upjiyo kote surh Nanak pargaas.”
