Shalok Sheikh Fareed Ji

The 5 Sloks of Sheikh Fareed Ji. Sloks no. 6,7,59,78 and 61 in that order at Ang 1378

These Sloks give Divine Wisdom (Naam) as to how we should conduct ourselves.

The first Slok tells us we should not judge others or slander them. “Kalle likh na lekh.”

“Fareeda Jae Thoo Akal Latheef Kalle Likh N Lekh”

Instead, we should look underneath our own collar i.e. we should always be humble and look at our own conduct.
“aapanrhe girivan me sirr nivaa kar vekh.”

These are Sloks by Sheikh Fareed Ji.

All Sloks relate to our conduct, the emphasis being on humility and forgiveness.

The Ragi Ji (kirtan available on YouTube) sings Fareed Ji’s, Sloks 6, 61, 59, 78, and 7, in that order.

1. In Slok 6, Sheikh Ji says we must not judge others and write black marks about them. Instead of judging others, one should peer into his own giriwan (collar, self) and check if his own conduct is spotless.

2. In Slok no. 61, Sheikh Ji tells us about the Sufis.
The Sufis traditionally wore black wool overclothe known as soof. This outward Sufi dress told the world, the wearer was beyond the touch of maya, and led a reputable life. Sheikh Ji says, despite my outward appearance, upon deep introspection I find I am full of faults “gunhi hi bhariya mai firha,” yet people rely on my outward dress and call me a dervish (Saint).

3. In Slok 59, Sheikh Ji says one must do deeds which bring spiritual honor. Otherwise, you shall be put to shame upon judgement in the Lord’s Court.

4. People can be very trying. Yet, we must not let our anger be provoked. Instead, we should wish well of everyone (Tere bhane sarbatt da bhala). Such an approach will save you from disease, and all your wishes will be fulfilled.

5. Some will cause physical harm. Even under such extreme provocation, we should restrain our anger and not strike back in a reflex action. Forgive them (pairh tinna de chum), and go deep within your inner self, (apnhre Ghar jaaiyeh) where God Himself resides.
