SGGS Angg 842.

Raag Bilaaval M.3 Var Sat Ghar 10.

These are two fairly long Shabads of 10 padas each from Angg 841-843.

In these Shabads, Guru Ji discusses the Var Sat i.e. the seven days of the week. There are so are many superstitions and rituals connected with each day of the week. Some deva has to be appeased, or some special color thread has to be worn on certain days to ward off ill luck. Some days are considered good for fasting to get some boon from the deva with whom a particular day is associated.

In the two Shabads Guru Ji goes through each day and stresses that every day belongs to God, and it is His Will which operates throughout every day of the week.

“Ekass te sabh duja huaa; Eko vartey avar na biaa” (Ang 842).

Guru Ji stresses this Ek can only be accessed through the Guru’s Shabad, with His Grace. Hence it is futile to pray to anyone besides the Lord.

As for fears, Guru Ji says you should take the Sharan of the Sahib (God). And, if one belongs to the All Powerful Lord and Master, no one can destroy him.

“Jis da Sahib Dadda hoye; tis nu maar na sakey koye.”

So long as the sewak remains in the Sanctuary of the Lord, the Lord in His Mercy forgives his sins and blesses him with glory.

“Sahib ki sewak rahe sarnaee; Aape bakshe de vadiaaiye.”

There is none higher than Him; why should one be afraid and what should he ever fear?

“Tis te upar nahi koye; kaun darey darr kis ka hoye.”

It is through the Guru’s Teachings (Bani), that peace and tranquility abide within the body. (Not through rituals, fasts or appeasing devas and the like); as you dwell upon the Shabads, you shall never suffer pain.

“Gurmati shaant vassey sareer; Shabad cheen firr laggey na pirh.”

You shall not have to come and go (in reincarnation), or suffer in sorrow; immersed in the Name you merge into Celestial Peace.

“Aave na jaaye na dukh paaye; Namey ratey sahaj samaaiye”

Nanak says, the gurmukh beholds the Lord as ever present; my God is fully pervading everywhere.

“Nanak gurmukh vekhay hadur; mera Prabh sadh rehiya bharpur”

This is the 4th and 5th pada of Guru Ji’s second Shabad on Var Sat.
