Raag Bilaaval M.5

A Sikh prays to God. Please abide in my mind always.

The Shabad starts with Praises of God. You are the Treasure of all Peace, my Beloved God; Your Glories are Infinite my Lord and Master.

“Sukh Nidhan Pritam Prabh mere; Agannat Gunn Thakur Prabh Tere.”

I, an orphan have taken Your Sanctuary; have Mercy upon me that I may meditate upon Your Feet (Bani).

(Anath is used many times in SGGS Ji. It refers to a high avastha where the Sikh has realized he is alone and all relationships are “ka ki mayee ka ko baap; Naam dhareek jhuthey sabh saak.” – Ang 188).

The rahao is a plea. In Your Mercy, please abide in my mind; I am without merit. Please attach me to the Hem of Your Robe (Naam).

“Dya karo basso mann aaye; mohe nirgunn lijjay larh laaye.” (rahao).

The next pada, the Sikh speaks about God’s Protective nature. When God is in my consciousness what misfortune can strike me?; the Lord’s servant suffers no pain from the messenger of death.

“Prabh chit aave ta kaisee pirh; Har sewak nahi jamm pirh.”

As one remembers You in meditation all pains are dispelled; as God comes to abide with Him forever.

“Sarab dukh Har simrat nassey; ja ke sang sada Prabh bassey.”

Next, the Power of Naam.

Naam provides Support for my mind and body; forgetting Naam the body is mere ashes; when Naam is remembered, all affairs are resolved; forgetting the Lord, one becomes subservient to all.

“Prabh ka Naam mann tann adhaar; bisrat Naam hovat tann shaar; Prabh chit aave puran sabh kaaj; Har bisrat sabh ka mohutaaj.”

I have now developed love for the Lord’s Lotus Feet (Bani); I have been rid of all evil minded ways; the Mantra of the Lord’s Name is deep within my body; Nanak says eternal bliss fills the home of the Lord’s Saints.

“Charan Kamal sang lagee preet; bissar gayee sabh durmatt reet; mann tann antar Har Har mant; Nanak Bhagatan ke ghar sada anand.”
