Guru Ji tells us of the miseries we endure if we do not serve the Satguru. Serving the Satguru means to read His Bani, follow His Teachings, and every act done by you is in sewa of the Satguru.
On the other hand, if you serve the Satguru, you can be blessed with liberation, and the cycle of births and deaths is cut.

Without serving the True Guru, one suffers in terrible pain, and wanders aimlessly throughout the four ages (all time); I am lowly and weak, You are the Giver throughout the ages, please enlighten me through the Shabad.

“Bin Satgur sevay bahuta dukh laaga juh chare bharmaye; ham deen Tum jug jug Datey Shabade deho bujhaye.”

Beloved Lord, please bless me with Your Grace; Unite me with the True Guru (Shabad), and give me the Support of the Lord’s Name (Attributes).

“Har Jio kirpa karo Tum Pyare; Satgur Data melh milavho Har Naam deho adhare.” (rahao).

After the above plea couched in the rahao, the prayers of the Sikh are answered and he recalls his experiences.👇

As I was blessed with the Infinite Naam, my desires were extinguished, and my duality (where I placed reliance on maya), vanished; I tasted the sublime essence of the Lord, became at peace, and my mind was purified by the Destroyer of all sins.

“Mansa maar dubida sahaj samanee paya Naam Aparaa; Har rass chakh mann nirmal hova Kilbikh Katanhaara.”

Dying through the Shabad, you live forever thereafter, and you shall never die again; Amrit Naam is always sweet to the mind, but a rare few obtain it through the Shabad.

“Shabad marho fir jivho sadh hi ta fir maran na hoyi; Amrit Naam sada mann mitha Shabade paave koyi.”

The Great Giver keeps His Gifts in His Hands, He gives them to those with whom He is Pleased; Nanak says, drenched with Naam, peace is found and such persons are exalted in the Lord’s Court.

“Datey Daat rakhi Haath Aapne jis bhave tis deyi; Nanak Naam ratey sukh paaya Dargeh jaape seyi.”
