Raag Sorath – Sorath ki Vaar – Slok M.3.

Guru Ji says the body (ghar) is full to the brim with Amrit (Naam), but the manmukhs do not ever taste It.

“Ghar hi me Amrit bharpur hai manmukha saad na paaya”

Musk deers have musk in their navels which are located underneath their bellies. When the wind blows a small amount of musk gets blown and the deer runs around trying to smell the fragrance from the musk, unaware that the hoard of musk is in its own navel. Musk is called kasturi. Thus Guru Ji says the manmukh who looks for Amrit outside is like a deluded musk deer.

“Jio kasturi mrig na jaane bhramda bharam bhulaya”

All the manmukh gathers is more and more poison of maya; in truth, he has been led astray by the Creator Himself.

“Amrit tajj bikh sangrey Karte Aap khuaaiya”

There are rare gurmukhs who obtain this understanding (that Amrit Naam – God is within their own bodies); they are shown the Lord within themselves.

“Gurmukh virlay sojee peiyee tinna andar Brahm dikhaaya”

The bodies and minds of such gurmukhs are soothed and their tongues relish the sublime taste of the Lord.

“Tan man sittal hoya rasna Har saad aaya”

Naam becomes manifest (is shared with the world) through the (Guru’s) Shabad, and it is by the Shabad that Union takes place.

“Shabadey hi Naoo upjay Shabadey mel milaaiya”

Without the Shabad the world is insane and wastes its life in vain.

“Bin Shabadey sabh jag bauranaa birtha janam gavaaeaya”

Nanak says the Shabad of the One Lord is Amrit and the gurmukhs obtain it.

“Amrit Eko Shabad hai Nanak gurmukh paaya.”
