Raag Kanrah M.5

Singing His Praises is an essential part of Sikh Teachings. In this Shabad, a Sikh tells his tongue to sing Praises of the Lord. The rest of the Shabad traces the blessings which flow when you sing His Praises.

My tongue, sing Praises of the Lord; humbly bow to the Saints (Guru) again and again, there reside the Lord’s Feet (Bani).

“Kirat Prabh ki gavho meri rasna; anik bar kar bandhan Santan uha Charan Gobind Ji ke basna.” (rahao).

The Door to the Lord cannot be found by any other means (i.e. only Naam leads you there); when He becomes Merciful, one meditates upon the Lord.

“Anik bhaant kar Dwar na pavho; hoye kirpal ta Har Har dhiavho.”

The body cannot be purified even by millions of rituals; in Sadhsanggat the mind gets enlightened.

“Kote karam kar deh na sodha; Sadhsanggat me mann parbodha.”

Thirst for the many pleasures of maya cannot be extinguished; reciting His Name all Peace is found (i.e. the greed for maya is removed).

“Trishan na bujhi baho rang maya; Naam lait sarab sukh paaya.”

When the Supreme Lord is Merciful; Nanak says, then all bondages are broken.

“Parbrahm jab bhaye Dyaal; kaho Nanak tao chutay janjaal.”‎
