Assa Ki Vaar.
Slok M.1.

In this profound Slok, Guru Ji tells us about man’s nature and also gives us Divine insights about God’s Nature.

The suffering man endures is really a cure (designed to prod him back to live with the flow of His Hukam), whilst happiness evolves into a disease since it (happiness) makes one forget God.

“Dukh daru sukh rogh bheya ja sukh taam na hoyi.”

The next line is of surrender and total acknowledgment of the Sovereignty of God.

You are the Creator Lord and I am a mere nothing. I can do nothing and even if I try, nothing happens.

“Tu Karta Karna mai nahi ja hao kari na hoyi.”

Blessed is Your Presence in Your Creation; Your limits can never be known.

“Balihari kudrat vaseya; Tera antt na jahi lakhiya.” (rahao).

Within all creation dwells Your Divine Light and (outside), all creation is enveloped by Your Divine Light too. (Another translation of the words “Jote mai jata” is “You are known through Your Divine Light i.e. Your Jote); Your Unfathomable Power pervades everywhere.

“Jaat me Jote Jote mai jata Akal Kala Bharpur rehiya.”

You are the True Lord and Master. Anyone who sings Your Glorious Praises is carried across; Nanak says, I speak of the Works of God. Whatever needs to be done is being carried out by Him. (i.e. there is nothing that is ever overlooked by Him, nor is there any delay in His Works).

“Tu Sacha Sahib sifat soaliho jin kitee so paar bheya; Kaho Nanak Karte kiya bataan jo kich karna so kar rehiya.”
