A jeev isteri bursts forth with Praises of the Lord. She recognizes she is but a puny hand- maiden in comparison with the One Boundless, Infinite, All Capable Master.

The Shantt has 4 padas. This is the 1st pada.

O Lord and Master, You are detached, and have so many hand – maidens like me; You are the Ocean, the Source of Jewels (Naam), but I have not truly appreciated Your Worth.

“Tu Thakuro Berragro mai jehi ghan cheri Raam; Tu Saagro Ratnagro hao saar na jaana Teri Raam.”

I have not appreciated Your Worth, You are the Wisest of all, please shower Your Mercy upon me Lord  Shower upon me Your Grace, that I may meditate upon You twenty four hours a day.

“Saar na jaana Tu Vadh Daana kar Mirahmat Sain; Kirpa kijjay sa matt dijjay aath pahar Tudh Dhiaiyee.”

It is good to sing His Praises, but that is not enough. As she pleads, the Guru tells her she must remove her ego too.

Remind your being not to be arrogant, rather you must become the dust of all, and you shall be saved.

“Garab na kijjay rein hovijay ta gatt jiarey Teri.”

She concludes. Nanak’s Lord is the Master above all. He has so many hand – maidens like me.

“Sabh upar Nanak ka Thakur mai jehi ghan cheri Raam.”
