Raag Suhi M.5

This Shantt has 4 padas. This shabad is from the 1st pada.
The words “sun bawre” (listen O madman), are used in all 4 padas. Guru Ji addresses a Sikh who is enticed by the attractions of the world, and does not take to Naam.

Listen O madman, why have you become deluded by gazing upon the world?; listen O madman this love (for worldliness) is false (transitory), like the fading color of the safflower.

“Sunn bawre tu kaye dekh bhulana; sunn bawre neho kurha laiyo kosumb rangana.”

Gazing upon the perishable world, you have been misled, it is not worth even half a shell. Only the Name of the Lord is permanent; you can get a red hue of true love for God, by reflecting upon the sweet Word of the Guru’s Shabad.

“Kurhi dekh bhulo adhh lahe na mulho Govind Naam majitha; thivay lala att gulala Shabad cheen Gur meetha.”

You remain intoxicated with false emotional attachment and remain attached to perishability; lowly Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord, the Treasure of Mercy who preserves the dignity of His Saints.

“Mithiya moh maggan thi rehiya jhuth sang laptana; Nanak deen Sharan Kirpa Nidh rakh laaj Bhagtana.”
