A conversation between a Sikh and the Satguru. The Sikh yearns for Darshan. He says I have surrendered my mind to You. Please give me Darshan. The Guru gently reprimands him, and tells him to correct himself. The Guru also tells him, besides the mind, there are lots of other things you must surrender too, before you can hope for Darshan.

A Sikh who has some basic grasp of Guru Ji’s Bani, tells the Satguru. I know we are all children from One God, who is our Divine Father, and You are my kindly Guru; listen my Friend (Guru), I am a sacrifice to You, please grant me Darshan of God.

“Ek Pita Ekass ke ham barak Tu mera Gur hayee; sun Mita jio hamara balh balh jasee Har Darshan deho dikhayee.”

The Sikh persists further. Listen my Friend (Guru), I am a sacrifice to the dust of Your Feet; this mind is Yours, Respected One.

“Sun Mita dhuri ko balh jayee; eh mann Tera Bhai.” (rahao).

I do Your sewa. I wash Your Feet, I massage and clean Them, I give my mind to You; listen Friend (Guru) I have come to Your Sanctuary, teach me that I may unite with God.

“Paav malovha malh malh dhova eh mann teh ku desa; sun Mita hao Teri Sharnayee aaya Prabh milho deho updesha.”

So far, the Sikh has twice said he has surrendered his mind, and has voiced his views that he is engaged in sewa. In a gentle rebuke, the Guru replies.

Do not be proud. Remain in Sanctuary and accept His Will as sweet; (addressing the Sikh as My friend), the Guru says dedicate your soul, your body, and your entire being (not merely your mann), and you might get Blessed with His Darshan.

“Maan na karijay Saran parijay kare so bhala manaiyeh; sun mita jio pind sabh tann arpijay eio Darshan Har Jio paaiyeh.”

The Guru describes the stage before Merger, when, with the Guru’s Grace, the Lord’s Name becomes Dear and Sweet to the Sikh.

“Bheyo Anugroh Parsad Santan (Guru) keh Har Nama hai meetha.”

Nanak says, when the Guru gives His Grace to such a humble Sikh who loves Gurbani, the Sikh, sees the Lord who is without caste, and is Immaculate, (beyond maya), everywhere.

“Jan Nanak ko Gur kirpa dharee sabh Akulh Niranjan Deetha.”
