SGGS Angg 142.

Raag Majh – Slok M.1 from Majh Ki Vaar, M.1.

Guru Ji tells us that it is very important to live a decent, hnourable life. True honor comes with the Lord’s Name.

Only those in whose minds the Lord abides, are truly alive and living; Nanak says, no one else is truly alive.

“So jeeveiya jis mann vasseiya soye; Nanak avar na jivhe koye.”

Those who live an existence where their honor erodes daily, everything they eat is impure (i.e their food is not blessed).

“Je jivhe patt lathi jaaye; sabh haraam jeta kich khaaye.”

Intoxicated with power and in love with wealth, they delight in their worldly pleasures, and dance about shamelessly  (“nangg” – naked, without any clothes of honor of “sifatt saram ka kapra”  SGGS Ang 1329).

“Raaj rang maal rang; rang ratta nache nangg.”

Nanak says, they have been misled (by love for maya) and defrauded; without the Lord’s Name, they lose (spiritual) honor and depart.

“Nanak thaggeiya mutha jaaiye; vin Naave patt geiya gavaaiye.”
