Raag Maroo M.5

Guru Ji tells us about the blessed sewak whose total focus is upon God.

Sikh tradition holds that as Guru Arjun Dev Ji was last seen in the river Ravi, Guru Ji was heard reciting Japji Sahib.
During the days Guru Ji was subjected to horrible tortures, Guru Ji was heard reciting Shabads like “Tera kiya mitha laage; Har Naam padarath Nanak maange.”

It is said that Guru Ji was also heard reciting this Shabad.

Pride, attachments, greed and evil are gone. Besides the Lord, there is nothing else in my consciousness; I have purchased the Jewel of Naam of God’s Praises. Loading this merchandise I set out on my journey (inwards).

“Maan moh aur saggal vikaara biyo cheet na ghaaliyo; Naam rattan gunna Har banje laadh vakhar le chaaliyo.”

The love of God’s servant for the Lord, lasts forever; in my life I served my Lord and Master, and as I depart, I keep Him enshrined in heart.

“Sewak ki orakk nibhi preet; jivat Sahib seviyo apna chaltay rakhiyo cheet.”(rahao).

Guru Ji uses the word “orakk,” also used in Japji Sahib. It means “akhir takk,” i.e. till the very end.

I did not turn my face away from my Master’s Commands; He fills my inner household with Celestial bliss. Each time I get up I rush towards Him.

“Jaisee aagya kinni Thakur tis te mukh nahi moriyo; sahaj anand rakhiyo greh bhittar uthh uaaho ko dauriyo.”

In His Will I find even hunger pleasurable, and know no difference between joy and sorrow; whatever is the Command of my Master, I bow and accept it.

“Aagya me bhukh soyee kar sukha sogh harakh nahi jaaniyo; jo jo Hukam bheyo Sahib ka so mathe leh maaniyo.”

The Lord is Merciful to His servant and resolves all affairs of this world and hereafter; Nanak says, that servant who recognizes His Master is blessed, and fruitful is His coming to this world.

“Bheyo Kirpaal Thakur sewak ko savrey haltt palatta; dhan sewak saffal oh aaya jinn Nanak Khasam pechaata.”
