Raag Suhi M.1

A jeev isteri wails about her condition. She cries out her fears to another satsangan who is already merged. This blessed Suhagan gives Divine advice and gives the seeker reassurance.

The seeker says:

I am full of faults and have no virtues at all; how can I ever meet my Husband Lord?; I have no beauty or enticing eyes; I do not have a noble family, good manners, nor a sweet voice.

“Sabh avgunn mai gunn nahi koyee; kyo kar Kantt milava hoyee; na mai roop na banke nainaa; na kull dhang na mithe bainaa.” (rahao).

The blessed Suhagan (actually, it is Shabad Guru Ji who replies, but the Shabad is structured as a conversation between two jeev isteris) interjects and advises.

The soul bride should adorn herself with inner peace and poise (not worry about external decorations or her physical looks); and she will become a happily married soul bride, when she becomes pleasing to her Husband Lord.

“Sahaj shingaar kaaman kar aave; ta Suhagan ja Kante bhaave.”

The Suhagan continues. This Lord with whom you seek Union has no form or feature; and remember, you cannot leave things to the last moment. At the final moments you will be unable to contemplate upon Him.

“Na Tiss roop na rekhiya kayee; antt neh Sahib simriya jayee.”

You must go to Him with this ardas.

I have no understanding, intellect or cleverness; have Mercy upon me Lord, and attach me to Your Feet. (Bani).

“Surat matt nahi chaturayee; kar kirpa Prabh laago payee.”

Remember, even if you are very clever, that does not endear you to the Lord; such a clever one is attached to maya and deluded by doubts.

“Kharee sianee Kant na bhanee; maya laagee bharam bhulanee.”

When her ego dissipates, she merges into Her Husband Lord; then the soul bride obtains the Nine Treasures (Naam), from her Beloved.

“Haumai jayee ta Kantt samanee; tao kaaman Pyare Nau Nidh payee.”

Thoroughly humbled and having received matt from the Guru, the seeker now pleads.

Separated from You for countless generations, I have suffered in pain; please take my hand O Beloved Sovereign Lord.

“Anik janam bichrat dukh payaa; kar geh leho Pritam Prabh Rayaa.”

The Guru concludes.

Prays Nanak. The Lord was, is, and shall ever be; He Sports (Unites) with those who Please Him.

“Bhannat Nanak Saho hai bhi hosee; jeh bhave Pyara teh ravehsee.”
