Raag Sri Raag M.5

A Sikh has been doing Satsangat and has received Divine Advice from the Satguru. The Sikh accepts and believes in the Teachings of the Satguru. He now instructs his mind to sing Praises of the Lord, surrender to Him completely, knowing that Infinite Blessings will flow from the Lord in His Grace.

Let me forget everything else, but let me never forget the One Lord; all my burdensome entanglements be burnt, and let me focus on Naam which my Guru has blessed me with – it is the true object of my life.

“Sabhe gallan visran Eiko vissar na jaao; dhanda sabh jalaaiye ke Gur Naam diya Sach Suaao.”

Give up all other hopes, rely only on One Hope; those who serve the True Satgur (Shabad), they receive a place in the hereafter.

“Aasa sabhe laahe ke Eika aas kamaao; jinni Satgur seviya tinn agge miliya thaoo.”

O my mind, Praise the Creator; give up all your clever tricks and fall at the Feet of the Guru.

“Mann mere Karte nu salaahe; sabhe chadh sianpaa Gur ki Pairi paahe.” (rahao).

Pain and hunger shall not oppress you if you remember the Giver of Peace; no undertaking shall fail, if the True Lord is always in your heart.

“Dukh bhukh neh viaapeyi je Sukhdata mann hoye; kit hi kam na chijiye ja hirday Sacha soye.”

Lord, one you Protect with Your Hands, no one can kill him; serve the Guru (Shabad), the Giver of Peace. He shall remove and wash off all your faults.

“Jis Tu rakhe Haath de tis maar na sake koye; Sukhdata Gur seviye sabh avgunn kadhe dhoye.”

Your servant begs to serve You and to be put to Your Service; the opportunity to work hard and serve the Saint (Guru), when the True Lord is Pleased; everything is in the Hands of the Master, who does all deeds Himself; I am a sacrifice to my True Guru who fulfills all my desires.

Sewa mange sewko laaiyan Aapni sev; Sadhu sang maskatte tuthe paava Dev; sabh kich vasgatt Sahibe Aape Karan Karev; Satgur ke baliharne mansa sabh purev.”

I see only One Companion, only One Brother and Friend; all elements belong to One and all are held in their Order (Hukam), by the One; as the mind accepts and believes (in the Sovereignity of) the One, the consciousness becomes steady and stable; Nanak says, your focus (Support) on One, renders True all you eat and wear.

“Eiko dissay Sajno Eiko Bhai Meet; Eikse di samagree Eikse di hai reet; Eikass seyo mann maaniya ta hova nichal cheet; Sach khaana Sach penena Tek Nanak Sach keet.”

ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
Siree Raag, Fifth Mehla:

ਸਭੇ ਗਲਾ ਵਿਸਰਨੁ ਇਕੋ ਵਿਸਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਉ ॥
(ਮੇਰੀ ਤਾਂ ਸਦਾ ਇਹੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਬੇ-ਸ਼ੱਕ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਣ, ਪਰ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਕਦੇ) ਨਾਹ ਭੱੁਲੇ
Let me forget everything, but let me not forget the One Lord.

ਧੰਧਾ ਸਭੁ ਜਲਾਇ ਕੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਆ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਆਉ ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ) ਧੰਧਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਮੋਹ ਸਾੜ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ । ਇਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਹੁਣ ਮੇਰਾ (ਜੀਵਨ-) ਮਨੋਰਥ ਹੈ
All my evil pursuits have been burnt away; the Guru has blessed me with the Naam, the true object of life.

ਆਸਾ ਸਭੇ ਲਾਹਿ ਕੈ ਇਕਾ ਆਸ ਕਮਾਉ ॥
ਮੈਂ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀਆਂ) ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਆਸਾਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਆਸ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਪੱਕੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ
Give up all other hopes, and rely on the One Hope.

ਜਿਨੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਅਗੈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਥਾਉ ॥੧॥
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ) ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Those who serve the True Guru receive a place in the world hereafter. ||1||

ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਰਤੇ ਨੋ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ॥
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ! ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ
O my mind, praise the Creator.

ਸਭੇ ਛਡਿ ਸਿਆਣਪਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਪਰ ਇਹ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ, ਸੋ ਤੂੰ) ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਚਤੁਰਾਈਆਂ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਢਹਿ ਪਉ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Give up all your clever tricks, and fall at the Feet of the Guru. ||1||Pause||

ਦੁਖ ਭੁਖ ਨਹ ਵਿਆਪਈ ਜੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
ਜੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸ ਪਏ, ਤਾਂ ਨਾਹ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਨਾਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ
Pain and hunger shall not oppress you, if the Giver of Peace comes into your mind.

ਕਿਤ ਹੀ ਕੰਮਿ ਨ ਛਿਜੀਐ ਜਾ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗੀਏ, ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ
No undertaking shall fail, when the True Lord is always in your heart.

ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂੰ ਰਖਹਿ ਹਥ ਦੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੰੂ ਤੰੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਕੋਈ (ਵਿਕਾਰ) ਉਸ ਨੰੂ ਆਤਮਕ (ਮੌਤੇ) ਮਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦ
No one can kill that one unto whom You, Lord, give Your Hand and protect.

ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਸਭਿ ਅਵਗਣ ਕਢੈ ਧੋਇ ॥੨॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਲੈਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਸਾਰੇ ਔਗੁਣ ਧੋ ਕੇ ਕੱਢ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Serve the Guru, the Giver of Peace; He shall remove and wash off all your faults. ||2||

ਸੇਵਾ ਮੰਗੈ ਸੇਵਕੋ ਲਾਈਆਂ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਸੇਵ ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਸਰੂਪ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਮੈਂ ਸੇਵਕ (ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ) ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ (ਦਾ ਦਾਨ) ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੰੂ ਤੰੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਲਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ
Your servant begs to serve those who are enjoined to Your service.

ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ਮਸਕਤੇ ਤੂਠੈ ਪਾਵਾ ਦੇਵ ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਹੋਵੇ ਤੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਮਿਲੇ
The opportunity to work hard serving the Saadh Sangat is obtained, when the Divine Lord is pleased.

ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਵਸਗਤਿ ਸਾਹਿਬੈ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਣ ਕਰੇਵ ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਹਰੇਕ (ਦਾਤਿ) ਮਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਇਖ਼ਤਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਣ ਜੋਗਾ ਹੈ
Everything is in the Hands of our Lord and Master; He Himself is the Doer of deeds.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੈ ਮਨਸਾ ਸਭ ਪੂਰੇਵ ॥੩॥
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ । ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਲੋੜਾਂ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
I am a sacrifice to the True Guru, who fulfills all hopes and desires. ||3||

ਇਕੋ ਦਿਸੈ ਸਜਣੋ ਇਕੋ ਭਾਈ ਮੀਤੁ ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ! ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ (ਅਸਲ) ਸੱਜਣ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਇਕ (ਅਸਲੀ) ਭਰਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ
The One appears to be my Companion; the One is my Brother and Friend.

ਇਕਸੈ ਦੀ ਸਾਮਗਰੀ ਇਕਸੈ ਦੀ ਹੈ ਰੀਤਿ ॥
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਉਸ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸੇ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਚੱਲ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ
The elements and the components are all made by the One; they are held in their order by the One.

ਇਕਸ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਤਾ ਹੋਆ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਚੀਤੁ ॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੱੁਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਵਿਚ ਗਿੱਝ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਚਿੱਤ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਾਸੇ) ਡੋਲਣੋਂ ਹਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
When the mind accepts, and is satisfied with the One, then the consciousness becomes steady and stable.

ਸਚੁ ਖਾਣਾ ਸਚੁ ਪੈਨਣਾ ਟੇਕ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਕੀਤੁ ॥੪॥੫॥੭੫॥
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਨੰੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਨੰੂ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਪੁਸ਼ਾਕ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੫।੭੫।
Then, one’s food is the True Name, one’s garments are the True Name, and one’s Support, O Nanak, is the True Name. ||4||5||75||
