Raag Gauree – Astpadhi 18, Sukhmani.

Astpadhi 18 tells us about the Satguru who knows the Lord
“Sat Purakh jinn jaaneya…”.

This is pada 2 of the 18th Astpadhi. This pada speaks of the true sewaks of the Satguru.

The selfless servant lives in the Guru’s Household (i.e. he spends all his time engaged in some sewa in furtherance of the Guru’s Cause); in his mind, he obeys the Guru’s Commands; he does not call attention to himself in any way; in his heart, he meditates constantly on the Lord’s Name; he sells (surrenders) his mind to the Guru (in exchange for Naam. Bhagat Kabir Ji says –
“Mann de, Raam leeya hai molh.”- Ang 327); (with all the above in mind), all affairs of the humble servant are resolved.

“Gur ke greh sewak jo rahe; Gur ki aagya mann me sahey; aapas ko kar kach na janaave; Har Har Naam riday sadh dhiaave; mann bechay Satgur ke paas; tis sewak ke karaj raas.”

One who does selfless service without thought of reward; shall attain to the Lord and Master.

“Sewa kartt hoye nehkamee; tis ko hote parapatt suamee.”

When He Himself grants His Grace; Nanak says, then the servant, receives the Guru’s Wisdom.

“Aapni kirpa jis Aap kare; Nanak so sewak Gur ki matt leh.”
