Raag Maroo (Maru) M.5

We tend to be engrossed with physical needs and spend so much time and effort in gathering physical goods and luxuries. The Gurus and Bhagats have repeatedly stressed the need to nourish the inner being, the jeev with Naam, as the stay here is temporary, and all our physical wealth is of no use hereafter.

In this Shabad, Guru Ji tells us about the various actions by which we can enrich ourselves internally.

Life is truly fruitful if one lives by listening to, and recites the Lord’s Name, which leads to an eternal life; the True Drink is that which satisfies the mind, one should drink in the sublime essence of Ambrosial Naam.

“Jivna saffal jivan sunn Har jap jap sadh jivna.” (rahao)

“Pivna jit mann aghaave Naam Amrit rass pivna.”

The real food is that which satisfies the mind and leaves you contented and satisfied forever.

“Khavna jit bhukh na laage santokh sada triptivna.”

The real clothes are those which protect your honor before the Lord, and never leave you naked (exposed) again.

“Penana rakh patt Parmeshar firr naange nahi thivna.”

The real relish is within the mind to be absorbed in thoughts of God in santsanggat.

“Bhogna mann madhe Har rass santsanggat me livna.”

One should sew loving devotion to the Lord in the mind without the need for any needle or thread. (“tithe sito sita Mahima mahe…”)

“Bin taggey bin suyee aani mann Har bhagti sang sivna.”

Be intoxicated with the sublime essence of the Lord and this experience shall never wear off again.

“Maatiya Har rass me ratey tis bahurh na kabhu aukhivna.”

One is blessed with all these Treasures (Attributes – Gunn), when the Lord in His Mercy, bestows them.

“Miliyo tis sarab nidhana Prabh Kirpal jis divna.”

Nanak finds peace in service to the Saints (Gurus), and drinks the water after washing the Feet (Bani) of the Saints.

“Sukh Nanak Santan ki sewa Charan Sant dhoye pivna.”
