Raag Sri Raag M.1

Guru Ji advices all Sikhs to take to Naam. Naam is the only True Commodity which will abide with you here and hereafter.

O merchants, make your deals and take care of your Merchandise (Naam); only purchase that commodity that will go along with you; in the hereafter, the All Knowing Merchant is Wise and will cherish the object you purchase. (the word “purchase” is used, because Naam is purchased by surrendering your mind to your Guru. “Mann de Raam liya hai molh.”).

“Vanaj karo vanjareyo vakhar leho samaal; taisee vastt visahiye jaisee nibhai naal; aggay Shah Sujjan hai laisee vastt samaal.”

O brothers, recite the Lord’s Name with love and sincerity; take the Lord’s Praises with you, which Praises the Lord shall see and approve.

“Bhai re Raam kaho chit laaye; Har jas vakhar le chalo Shoh dekhay patiaiye.” (rahao).

Those who do not have the Assets of Truth (Naam), how can they find peace?; when you trade in deals of falsehood (maya), your minds and bodies become false; like the deer caught in a trap they cry in agony, and continually cry out in pain.

“Jinna raas na Sach hai kyo tinna sukh hoye; khotay vanjj vanjiye mann tann khota hoye; faahi fathay mrig jio dukh ghanno nit roye.”

The counterfeit are not put into the Treasury, nor do they get the Blessed Vision of Guru or God; the false ones have no social dignity nor honor. No one succeeds through falsehood; practicing deceit over and over again, they come and go in reincarnation, and forfeit their honor.

“Khitay potay na pavhe tin Har Gur Daras na hoye; khotay jaat na patt hai khote na sijjas koye; khotay khot kamaavna aaye geiya patt khoye.”

Nanak says, mould your mind through the Guru’s Shabad which Praises the Lord; those who are colored with love for the Lord’s Name, have no delusions nor are they loaded by (karmic) weight; those who chant the Lord’s Name, receive tremendous Profits (Grace), and the Fearless Lord abides in their minds.

“Nanak mann samjahiye Gur ke Shabad salaah; Raam Naam rang retiya paar na bharam tinaah; Har jap laha aglaa Nirbhao Har mann mah.”
