This Shabad expresses the bairaag avastha. Of deep yearning to have Darshan of the Lord.

A Sikh starts by saying that the Lord’s Name is pleasing to his mind; it was most fortunate that I took to Naam.

“Har Har Naam mai Har man bhaaya; vadbhagee Har Naam dhiaaeya.”

It is from the Perfect Guru that one obtains the Perfection of Naam, how rare are those who follow the Guru’s Teachings.

“Gur Purey Har Naam Sidh payee ko virla Gurmat chaley jio.”

I have loaded my pack with the provisions of the Lord’s Name; the Companion of my breath of life shall always be with me; the Perfect Guru has implanted the Lord’s Name within me and I have acquired this Imperishable Wealth.

“Mai Har Har kharach leya ban palley; Mera pran sakhayee sada naal chaley; Gur Purey Har Naam dhrihraeya Har nichal Har Dhan palley jio.”

The Lord, my Beloved King, is my best Friend; if only someone would come and Unite me with Him, the One who Rejuvenates your very breath; I cannot survive without seeing my Beloved; my eyes are welling up with tears.

“Har Har Sajan mera Pritam Raeiya; koyee aan milavhe mere pran jivaeehya; hao reh na saka bin dekhe Preetma mai neer vahe veh chaley jio.”

My Friend, the True Guru, has been my Best Friend since my childhood; I cannot survive without seeing Him O mother; O dear Lord, please shower Your Mercy upon me that I may unite with the Guru (Shabad); in humilty servant Nanak gathers the Wealth of the Lord’s Name.

“Satgur mitar mera baal sakhayee; hao reh na seka bin dekhay meri mayee; Har Jio kirpa karo Gur melho jan Nanak Har Dhan palley Jio.”
