Raag Ramkali – Pauri no. 32 Anand Sahib.

Guru Amardas Ji tells us how we can progress to inner Anand (bliss) in Anand Sahib. One of the most important ways is to develop a rass for Naam with the tongue. Guru Ji instructs the tongue in these terms.

“O my tongue, you are engrossed in all kinds of tastes, but your thirsty desires never get quenched; your thirst shall never be quenched by any means until you acquire the relish of the Subtle Essence (Naam) of the Lord.

“Eh rasna tu anrass raach rahi teri pyaas na jaaye; pyaas na jaaye horatt kitay jichar Har Rass palay na paaye.”

If you do obtain and drink in the Subtle Essence of the Lord, you shall not be troubled by desires (for maya) again; this relish for the Subtle Essence of the Lord is obtained by His Grace, as one meets (unites) with the True Guru (Shabad).

“Har Rass paaiye palay piye Har Rass bahurh na trishna laage aaye; eh Har Rass karmi paaiye Satgur milhe jiss aaye.”

Nanak says, all other relishes and tastes are forgotten when the Lord comes to dwell in the mind.

“Kaho Nanak horh ann rass sabh visray ja Har vassey mann aaye.”
