Raag Basant M.3

Guru Ji describes the inner Spring (Basant) avastha of the gurmukh which comes with Naam. Unlike the external spring season which lasts about 2 months, the inner Spring avastha is eternal, and everything is lush and blossoms forever. Towards the end of the Shabad, Guru Ji says the Lord Himself is the Eternal Spring Season, whilst all creation is His Garden.

Spring has come upon us and all plants are flowering; these beings and creatures blossom forth when their hearts are lovingly focused upon the Lord.

“Basant charhiya phulli banraiye; eh jee jantt phulle Har chit laaiye.”

This is how this mind gets rejuvenated; the gurmukhs recite the Name of the Lord, day and night, and their egotism gets washed away.

“Ein bidh eh mann hareiya hoye; Har Har Naam jappe dinn ratee gurmukh haumai kadhe dhoye.” (rahao).

The True Guru speaks the Shabad, the Revelations from God; the world can blossom in greenery through love for the True Guru (Shabad).

“Satgur Bani Shabad sunnaiye; eh mann harieiya Satgur bhaaiye.”

Flowers and fruits blossom forth, when the Lord so Wills; as one attaches himself to the Primal Lord, the Root (Source) of all, he Unites with the True Guru (Shabad).

“Phalh phul laage ja Aape laaiye; Mool lagge ta Satgur paaiye.”

The Lord Himself is the (Eternal) Spring Season and the world is His Garden; Nanak says, only with Perfect Destiny is one blessed with Saintly Devotion.

“Aap Basant jagatt sabh varhi; Nanak Puray Bhaag bhagat niraali.”
