A Sikh who realises he has gone through many life forms, pleads for Naam and for salvation.

I am a mere beggar of Yours, and You are the Lord Master and Great Giver; be Merciful to me, a lowly beggar, and bless me with Your Name that I may be absorbed in Your Love.

“Ham bhikhak bhikhari Tere Tu Nijh Patt hai Dataa; hoho Dyal Naam deho mangat jann ko sada raho rang rataa.”

I am a sacrifice to Your Name; the One Lord is the Cause of causes, there is none other at all.

“Hao balhare jaao Sache Tere Naam vitho; Karan Kaaran sabna ka Eko avar na dujja koyee.” (Rahao).

I have gone through many cycles of reincarnation, now Lord, please bless this wretched miser with Your Grace; be Merciful and grant me Your Blessed Vision – bless me with this Gift.

(The word keerpan means miser. A miser holds tight to maya, i.e. he says “meri meri.” His attachment to maya brings bondage, and cycles of reincarnation. I have used the word wretched miser.)

“Bahutay ferh bhaye keerpan ko ab kich kirpa keejay; hoho Dyal Darshan deho Apna aisee baksh karijay.”

And when Grace is given.

“Nanak says the shutters of doubt have been opened wide, and through Guru’s Grace I have realized the Lord; I became lovingly focussed on the Lord within me as my mind was appeased by the True Guru (Shabad).

“Bhanat Nanak bharam patt khulay Gur Parsadi jaaniya; Sachi liv laagi hai bhittar Satgur seyo mann maaniya.”
