Guru Ji describes Pothi Sahib. This Pothi Sahib was compiled by Guru Arjun Dev Ji at Ramsar Sahib, between 1602 till 1604.

On 30th August 1604, Pothi Sahib was parkash at Harmandar Sahib for the first time. Baba Buddha Ji was appointed by Guru Ji to be the first Granthi Sahib. At night, after sukhasan had been done, Pothi Sahib was taken with utmost respect and reverence to Guru Arjun Dev Ji’s residence. Pothi Sahib was placed on Guru Ji’s own Manji Sahib, after fresh, clean clothing and bedding had been spread on the Manji Sahib. Guru Ji chose to sleep on the floor thenceforth. It shows Guru Ji’s reverence for Gurbani.

Until today, as a mark of reverence, a fresh white sheet of cloth is spread out on the ground near Manji Sahib as a token, and traditional mark of loving regard for Guru Ji’s action and deep regard for Gurbani.

This Holy Book is the Home of the Supreme Lord Himself; anyone who sings the Praises of the Lord (from this Pothi Sahib) in Sadhsanggat will be led towards perfect enlightenment (about God).

“Pothi Parmeshar ka thaan; sadhsang gavhe Gunn Gobind puran Brahm Gyan.” (rahao).

The adepts and the seekers and the (rishi) munis all yearn for the Lord, but a rare one gets deep focus on Him; on whom my Master is Merciful, his affairs get settled perfectly.

“Sadhik sidh saggal munn lochay birlay laage dhyan; jisse kirpaal hovay mera Suami puran ta ke kaam.”

One whose heart is filled with the Lord, Destroyer of fear, is known throughout the world; Nanak prays for this boon – may I never forget You, Creator Lord, even for an instant.

“Ja ke ridhay vassey Bhay Bhanjan tis jaane saggal jahan; khin pal vissar nahi mere Karte eh Nanak mangge daan.”
