They were full of compassion for humankind.
Yet, there are Shabads which are very harsh.
That is because the Satgurus received Dhur Ki Bani as Revelations and those Revelations show how strict God is about Naam. Harsh Truths have to be told.
At Angg 188, Guru Ji says, the mortal is indeed fortunate that he has obtained a human body.
“Dulabh deh paayi vadhbhagi.”
With this hard to obtain human body, if he does not recite Naam, he is committing suicide.
“Naam na jappe te aatam ghati.”
Those who have forsaken the Lord, they might as well, die.
“Mar na jaahi jinna bisrat Raam.”
Without Naam, of what use are their lives?
“Naam bihoon jiwan kaun kaam.”
One may eat, drink, play and laugh; (without Naam), what use is all that? It is a mere ostentatious display of a corpse.
“Khaat peet khelatt bisthaar; kavan arth mirtak shingaar.”
One who does not listen to the Praises of the Lord of Supreme Bliss; are worse than beasts, birds and the crawling creatures.
“Jo na sunne jas Parmananda; pas pankhi triggad joon te manda.”
Only Naam from the Satguru, enshrined in your heart, can give you relief.
“Kaho Nanak Gur Mantar dhrirhaiya; Kewal Naam ridh mahe samaiya.”
