In Gurbani the words used for dancing are
” nirat” or “naach.”
Gurbani says we should look at His Wondrous Play with vismaad – with awe and fascination.
The clip (available on YouTube) shows some aspects of God’s Wonderful Kudrat. It is indeed dancing in tune with His Hukam.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji sees the entire Universe engaged in His Cosmic Aarti. Guru Ji says what an amazing Aarti it is.
“Kaisi Aarti hoye; Bhav Khandna Teri Aarti.”
Guru Arjun Dev Ji at Angg 884 describes the Rythmic Dance of the All Pervading Lord.
“Raam Ko Niratkari.”
The Merciful Lord sees the magnificent Dance of all Creation decorated by Him.
“Pekhe Pekhanhaar Dyala jeta saaj shingari.”
The entite earth is His Stage (Akhar Mandli) and the canopy of the sky flutters overhead.
“Akhar Mandli dharan sabaayi upar gaggan chandoa.”
Air is the messenger in each mortal and all Creation is forged out of water.
“Pavan vichola karat akela jal te upatt hova.”
The human puppet has been created out of five elements, based upon his past karmas.
“Panch tatt kar putra kinna kiratt milava hova.”
The sun and moon are the two shining lamps which fill the four corners with light.
“Chand suraj doye jare charaga chau kuntt bhittar rakhe.”
There is dancing going on within us too. The ten senses are the dancing girls, while the five passions form the chorus.
“Das patho panch sangeeta ekay bhittar saathe.”
All dance in various ways, showing off their skills (bhav dikhave), and speak in different tongues.
“Bhin bhin hoye bhav dikhave sabho niraari bhaakhe.”
In each and every home there is dancing day and night (driven to dance by His Hukam), and the bugles blow in every home (ego blows its own horn at every home).
“Ghar ghar nirat hove din ratti ghat ghat vajhe tura. ”
One makes them dance, One makes them whirl around many are reduced to dust and repeatedly come and go.
“Ek nachave Ek bhavavhe eik aaye jaaye hoye dhura.”
Nanak says one who Unites (Suratt) with the True Guru (Shabad) does not have to ever dance in reincarnation again.
“Kaho Nanak so bahur na naache jis Gur bhetay Pura.”
