Raag Assa (Asa) M.5

Guru Ji talks to God. The Bhagats and the Gurus were drenched with love for God. They had a close relationship, and spoke in very familiar terms with Him. In this Shabad, the word “Tu” is used throughout the Shabad. It shows an amazing degree of comfort and familiarity with their Friend.

Despite the use of such familiar terms of address, the entire Shabad is couched in humility, respect and awe of the Lord.

You are the Waves and I am Your fish; You are my Lord and Master. I wait at Your Door.

“Tu mera Trangg ham meen Tumare; Tu mera Thakur ham Tere Duarey.”

You are my Creator, and I am Your servant; I have taken Your Sanctuary O most Profound Lord of All Excellences.

“Tu mera Karta hao sewak Tera; Sharan gahi Prabh gunni gahera.” (rahao).

You are my very life, You are my Support; beholding You my heart lotus blossoms forth.

“Tu mera jeevan Tu adhaar; Tujhe pekh bigsay kaulaar.”

You are my Salvation and Honor. You make me Acceptable; You are All Powerful, You are my Strength.

“Tu meri gatt patt Tu Parvaan; Tu Samrath mai Tera Taan.”

Night and day I recite the Name of the Lord, the Treasure of All Excellences; This is Nanak’s Prayer to God.

“Andinn japho Naam Guntass; Nanak ki Prabh peh Ardas.”
