Raag Sorath – Slok M.3 from Sorath Ki Vaar, M.4.

Guru Ji tells us about God’s All Encompassing Nature, and Sovereignity in all aspects.

He Himself enjoins us to serve Him, and He Himself blesses us with forgiveness. (We may be washing plates in a Gurdwara. We must be grateful that He allows us to do so, and be aware and live in shukrana that the thought to do sewa, and the strength to do sewa came from Him).

“Aape sewa laaiyen Aape baksh kare.”

He Himself is Father and Mother to all. He cares for all of us. (In a recent litigation involving some gurdwara committee members, the winning group came to the gurdwara and did prayers to celebrate their victory. This was the Hukamnama given by the Guru after ardas. It stresses that I am Father and Mother to all i.e. to the losing party too, and such disputes are misplaced. The victory is always of Naam, not of any individual. Our ardas always starts with the declaration. “EK Oaungkar Sri Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh.” It is always God’s Fateh (victory), not victory of created ones).

“Sabna ka Maa Piyo Aap hai Aape hi saar kare.”

Nanak says, those who meditate upon Naam, are blessed to abide in the true home of their inner being, and are blessed with honor throughout the ages.

“Nanak Naam dhiaaeyen tin nijh ghar vaas hai jugh jugh sobha hoye.”
