Raag Gauree – Bavan Akhri M.5.

All of us are fallible. We tend to make various breaches of His Hukam and each breach brings karmic weight. It is impossible to live out every karma due to the sheer volume. The Gurus have repeatedly said that if you take to Naam and you plead for His Grace and Mercy, He is very kind and forgives even our darkest sins.

The pauri has eight lines. The first six lines look at a despicable human being. He is “loon haramee” (unfaithful back stabber), “gunahgaar” (full of sin), “begana” (in Gurbani it means begyaana) ignorant, “alip matt” (of shallow understanding).

He is ungrateful and does not understand the essence of things that all he enjoys is given by the Lord.

“Jio pind jin sukh diye tahe na jaanat tatt”

For selfish gain he is prepared to travel to ten directions.

“Laha maya karne deh dis dhundhan jaaye”

He does not enshrine the Generous Lord in his mind even for an instant.

“Devenhaar Dataar Prabh nimakh na manne basaaye”

Greed, falsehood, corruption, attachments are what he collects in his mind.

“Lalach jhuth bikaar moh eiha sampe man mahe.”

He passes his time with the worst perverts, thieves and slanderers.

“Lampat chor nindak maha tinhu sang vihaaye”

After such a colourful description Guru Ji says, if it Pleases the Lord, He can forgive such counterfeit ones along with the genuine ones.

“Tudh bhave ta baksh le khotay sang kharey”.

In fact if the Lord so wishes He can make stones float on water. (He can make those dense and heavy with sin float across the world ocean).

“Nanak bhave Parbrahm paahan neer tarey”
