Shabad from Raag Jaithshree.

SGGS Angg 701.

A Sikh pleads to be united with God.

“Koyee jan Har seyo devey jor”.

The plea is to “koyee jan.”
Although the translation says “if only someone would unite me with the Lord.”

The word “jan” is used by the Gurus to describe themselves. For example at SGGS Angg 1352, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji says.

“Nanak jan kahat baat binass jehe tero gaat.”

So, the plea is by the Sikh to his Guru to unite Him with God.

The Sikh praises his Guru, offers his very life breath, and holds on tight to the Guru’s Charan (Bani).

“Charan gaho bako shubh rasna dijjay pran akor” (rahao).

With the Guru’s Bani, the Sikh says he would make his mind and body into pure little gardens and irrigate them with the pure essence (Naam).

“Man tan nirmal kart kiaro Har sichay sudha sanjor”

Being drenched with Naam and with the Guru’s grace the powerful hold of maya would be broken.

“Eia rass me maggan hot kirpa te maha bikhiya te tor”

I have come to Your Sanctuary O Destroyer of suffering of the lowly ones. My tek is upon You.

“Aiyo sharan Deen Dukh Bhanjan chitvo tumri oor”

O Breaker of all bondages please bless Nanak with fearlessness and meditative remembrance upon You.

“Abhay padh daan simran suami ko Prabh Nanak bandhan shor”
