Raag Sri Raag Slok M.1 from Sri Raag Ki Vaar M.4.

The janamsakhis say Guru Ji visited Assam and went to the present day town of Gauhati. It was ruled by a sorceress Nurshah, who was adept at black magic and ridhi sidhis. She and her attendants tried to hurt Guru Ji and hurled all kinds of energies at him. Nothing worked. Exhausted, they fell at Guru Ji’s feet and asked to be instructed in the proper way to live.

Guru Ji expressed the Shabad Kuchaji (Ang 762) which describes the conduct of an unchaste woman.

Guru Ji then expressed this Shabad which says one should recognize one’s faults, and seek holy company which will cleanse and elevate you spiritually with Naam.

Self recognition of one’s faults is very important as the moss of delusion will not be removed otherwise.
At Angg 684, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji says “Jan Nanak bin appa chinnay mittay na mann ki kayee.”

We are good at talking, but our actions are bad; our minds are impure and stained black, but outwardly we appear white (pure).

“Galli assi changiya achaari bureeya; manho kusudha kaaliyan bahar chitviya.”

We imitate those who stand to serve at the Lord’s Door.

“Rissa kare tinarhiya jo sevay dar kharhiya.”

(in contrast). Those who are attuned to the Love of their Husband Lord, experience the joys of His Love; they do not show off their power, and although they are powerful, they remain humble and polite.

“Naal Khasme rattiyan maane sukh ralliyan; honday taan nitaaniya rahe nimaaneniyan.”

Nanak says, your life becomes blessed if you keep such (holy) company.

“Nanak janam sakartha je tinn ke sang milaah.”
