Raag Assa  – Asa Ki Vaar

Assa Ki Vaars sung every morning at Gurdwaras throughout the world.

Asa Ki Vaar sets out the Core Teachings of Sikhism in the initial Sloks and Pauris.

Once the scene is set, Guru Ji tears apart the bharam bhulekhe, superstitions, and deceit of the Brahmins, Pandits, the Rulers, and the blind populace.
The criticism is very harsh and pointed, yet, couched in Beautiful Gurbani.

Sikh Tradition has it that Guru Arjun Dev Ji ordered that one of the 24 Chakas of Guru Ramdas Ji be read before each of the Sloks and 24 Pauris of Asa Ki Vaar.

The Chakas are drenched with Prema Bhagti. Read together with the harsh criticism of wayward society in Asa Ki Vaar, the total composition of Chakas and Asa Ki Vaar becomes a delight to hear.

This Clip contains the 24 Chakas of Guru Ramdas Ji. They are actually 6 Shantts of 4 padas each, making a total of twenty four.
The word Chaka comes from the Punjabi word “Shey” i.e. six. Chaka means a cluster of six.
These Chakas are found at Anggs 448 till 451 SGGS Ji
