Raag Assa M.5

A jeev isteri pines for Union with her Beloved. It is a poignant state of bairaag, yearning for the safe Arms of her Husband Lord.

Time passes so slowly for her. It is an inner torture waiting and hoping for Union.

One moment, one day is for me many days; my mind is restless, how will I ever meet my Beloved?.

“Ek ghari dinnas moko bahut diharey; mann na rahe kaiso milhe Pyare.”

I cannot endure another day, even an instant without Him; my mind’s desire for Darshan is so great. Is there any Saint who can lead me to meet my Beloved?.

“Eik palh dinnas moko kabhu na bihaave; Darshan ki mann aas ghaneri koyee aisa sant moko Pireh milaave.” (Rahao).

The four watches of the day stretch out like four ages to me; and when night comes, it seems never ending.

“Chaar pahar chao jugeh samaane; rainn bheyi tab antt na jaane.”

The five demons (vikaars) have conspired to separate me from my Husband Lord; wandering and rambling I wring my hands in anguish.

“Panch doot milh Pirhe vichorhi; bhram bhram rovay haath pachodi.”

(Gurbani is always optimistic and pragmatic. The final pada speaks of fulfillment).

The Lord blessed servant Nanak with His Darshan; I reflected deep within myself, and obtained Supreme Peace.

“Jann Nanak ko Har Daras dikhaaya; aatam cheen Param Sukh paaya.”
