SGGS Ang 323

Raag Gauree

Pauri 21, Gauri Ki Vaar Mehla 5.

The word dhadhee (Ministrel – one who Sings the Lord’s Praises) appears several times in SGGS Ji.

The word dhadhee is used only in the Vaars, which indicates the setting of the Vaars. A fight between manmukhs and gurmukhs. The gurmukh dhadhee always wins.

In this Pauri, the dhadhee says, my mind is drenched with Love for God. That is my true food and clothes.

“Mann ratta Govind sang Sach Bhojan Jorhe.”

To have horses and elephants is a sign of wealth and power. For me, the dhadhee says, the Name of the Lord is my wealth and horses. (Naam is all my wealth and power).

“Preet laggi Har Naam seyo eh hasti ghoday.”

I get all kinds of kingdoms, properties and joys as I meditate upon Him steadfastly.

“Raaj milakh khushian ghani dhiaaye mukh na morhe.”

As a dhadhee I beg all my wants from the Lord’s Door. I shall never leave the Lord’s Door. (I will never beg from anyone else).

“Dhadhee Dar Prabh Mangna Dar Kadhe na chodhe.”

The dhadhee Nanak Ji now says, As Dhadhee my mind and body continually longs for God.

“Nanak mann tann chaoo eh nit Prabh ko lorhe.”
