Daswa Duar

Bhagat Bani in Raag Bhairo is rather intricate and complex and has many mystical references which need to be explained.

For example, we discussed Shabad no 10, Angg 1159 on 20-3-23. Bhagat Kabir Ji describes how Naam and Gur Parsad helped him to rise to  the Daswa Dwar. Bhagat Ji uses the language of the yogis to describe his experience. The yogis relied upon pranayams, breathing exercises, rituals and manhath karams to claim they could rise from their mool chakra (mooldhara) until they reached the Daswa Dwar. Thus it became necessary to explain briefly about chakras and yogic methods in explaining this Shabad, and that requires some time.

Bhagat Kabir Ji begins the Shabad by saying Divine Enlightenment Resides in the city of Shiv (not the deva Shiv Ji). Here, Bhagat Ji is referring to the Daswa Dwar in the mann as Shiv. It is in the mann, using  Naam one should  go into deep reflection, and meet the Lord.

“Shiv ki Puri basse budh saar; teh tum mil ke karo bichaar.”

At that Plane, in the mann, you will receive Understanding of this world and the hereafter. What is the point of doing physical acts and rituals by yourself, in ego like the yogis and claiming you have Knowledge of everything, when you end up dying in ignorance.

“Eit utt ki sojee parhe; kaun karam mera kar kar marhe.”

In the rahao, Bhagat Ji explains he focused deep within himself with Naam, and the All Pervading Lord blessed him with Divine Wisdom/Enlightenment.

“Nijh padh upar laago dhyan; Raja Ram Naam mora Brahm Gyan.” ( Rahao).

Using yogic terms about the chakras and the rise of kundalini, Bhagat Ji tells us that the lowest chakra, the mooldhara chakra  (carnal desires, lust) was restrained (by Naam) and the heat of desires which burnt fiercely within like the sun, were cooled by the moon of calmness (santokh, sahaj).

“Mool dware bandhiya bandh; Rav upar geh rakhiya Chandh.”

In the physical world, we see the sun rise in the east. Bhagat Ji says Naam has inverted his mind away from maya, and now the Sun of Enlightenment in his mann, rises from the opposite direction, i.e. the west. This Enlightenment now rises, pushing his avastha upwards through the spine, (referred to as mer dandh by the yogis) piercing through the chakras.

“Pascham Dware suraj taphe; mer dandh sirr upar basse.”

As the avastha rises, it gets blocked by a hard stone door. (this is a reference to ego, ignorance, haumai). As that is broken, one finds there is a Window which opens inwards to the Daswa Dwar. (Bhagat Ji uses the word “khirki” here. At Angg 856, Bhagat Ji uses the word “kiwarh”).”

“Pascham Dware ki silh orh; teh silh upar khirki aur.”

Bhagat Kabir Ji concludes by saying above that khirki one finds the Daswa Dwar which is Infinite, as the Creator Himself Resides there.

“Khirki upar Daswa Dwar; kahe Kabir ta antt na paar.”

As can be seen, a Shabad like the above is full of mystical references . This requires time to explain the Shabad in its proper context.
