Raag Dhanaasree M.5
We tend to veer between dukh and sukh. Sometimes the sukh is fleeting. For a few moments we think of something nice, and we break out into a smile. Then we are reminded of some unhappiness and sadness takes over again. Guru Ji says this affects a lot of mortals.
“sukh dukh doye dar kaprhe pahire jaye manukh.” (Ang 149).
Guru Ji says this dukh sukh is “doye dar” i.e. the dar of maya, not So Dar, the Pathway to God.
How do we get out of these see sawing of maya and stop falling into dukh and sukh? What we truly want is a permanent sukh.
The answer is given in Japji Sahib. Guru Ji first says in Pauri no 2.
“….Hukam likh dukh sukh paaiyeh” i.e. dukh sukh is ordained by God.
To get out of this cycle, in Pauri no 5 Guru Ji tells us we must
“gaaviyeh suniyeh mann rakhiye bhao” and the result would be, “dukh parhar sukh ghar leh jaaiye”
Eternal sukh comes with Gur Parsad (Ang 191).
“Dukh nathey sukh aaye samaaiye; dhilh na paree ja Gur fumaaiye.”
In this Shabad, Guru Ji tells us Naam leads you to sukh daily, not only in this world, but hereafter too.
“Halatt sukh palatt sukh nit sukh simrano Naam Gobind ka sada lijjay.”
And as you continue engaging with Naam lovingly, all sins of past lives are erased in Sadhsanggat. Fresh life is infused into the dead.
“Mittay kamaneh paap chiraneh Sadhsanggat milh muaa jijjay.” (rahao).
When there is power, and youth (strength), one tends to forget the Lord. The wise sages say maya is the greatest tragedy.
“Raaj jobhan bisrant Har maya maha dukh eh mahant kahe.”
Desire and thirst to sing the Lord’s Praises, this is the Gift upon His blessed Saints.
“Aas pyaas raman Har Kirtan eh padarth bhagvant lahe.”
O Lord of Sanctuary, All Powerful, Beyond Description, Unfathomable, Your Name Purifies all sinners.
“Sharan Samrath Akath Agochra Patit Udharan Naam Tera.”
Nanak says, my Master is Knower of All Inner Secrets, Perfect in All Aspects and Pervading everywhere.
“Antarjamee Nanak ke Suami Sarbat Puran Thakur mera.”
